Welcome Scholars!
To my amazing new 7th graders,
Welcome to English 7! I want to begin with an apology. Often, adults do not feel the need to apologize to children, but as fellow human beings I feel it is important to treat you like young adults. So, I'm sorry. I'm sorry I won't be able to see you in-person for the first five weeks of school, sorry I won't be able to give you a high-five or a pat on the back when you need it, sorry you can't come into my classroom and just chill during your lunch period, sorry we are not in the same physical space (for now). We will make that up soon enough, but in the meantime, please remember that being apart does not mean being alone. This year you are not alone. This year you will be supported. This year will be the best school year of your entire lives. I promise.
Although we will utilize this website when we are back in the physical classroom, we will use Google Classroom exclusively for the next five weeks while we are online. I will post all your assignments and all the material you will need in Google Classroom. In addition, you can use Infinite Campus to check your grades, Lastly, the best way to contact me is my email address, and I am usually able to respond within a couple hours, so do not hesitate to contact me anytime, even now: [email protected]
I am truly looking forward to a great school year with each and every one of you as we learn and grow together. It will be my job and my pleasure to work with you on making this school year the most successful one you have ever experienced, both academically and personally. It is my job to teach you how to become stronger readers, writers, listeners, and speakers. But it is also my job to help you navigate through this thing called "growing up," so do not hesitate to let me know if there is anything you need. I take my job seriously, and I take you seriously.
I leave you with one of my favorite quotes. If you understand it, you will understand the true meaning of success. Together, I promise you, we will be successful:
"Success is peace of mind which is a direct result of self-satisfaction in knowing you did your best to become the best that you are capable of becoming." (John Wooden)
Blessed to be your teacher,
Sargon Maradkel
